The history of jewels is extensive, with different uses depending on the culture to which they belong. Some have lasted thousands of years and have provided insights into how ancient cultures worked. Jewelery items include bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, as well as hair ornaments, among others.

Through high quality and precision carving procedure, a jeweler can increase the value of the raw material, in this case, the precious stone. Its value is measured by several parameters depending on the gem, for example, in the diamond, they are weight, purity, color, and size.

Quality control and analysis of a specimen may require the use of sophisticated instruments and the use of long hours of study in some cases, such as obtaining certificates from accredited international gemological institutes (GIA, The Gemological Institute of America; IGE, Spanish Gemmological Institute).
